I noticed that one of the goals of the trainer was to "put muscle on the upper body" While dieting in contest prep and in a calorie deficit, this probably isn't likely (unless you are brand new to lifting)

    The leg press is a decent tool but far from necessary I would argue that squats aren't "necessary" either for anyone but powerlifts (you can do other movements to varying degrees for the similar results) Still, 8 sets of squats would require the load to be significantly lighters than doing say 1-3 sets Depending on your goal, that may be something to consider

    What's more, don't forget that cardio is catabolic, so don't do too much of it And as soon as your cardio is finished, take some simple carbs to block the cortisol - cortisol is a catabolic hormone - which means that it burns muscle for energy - and is produced after some time when you exercise But I try to eat once every 3-4 hours
